Nicola Bergaglio Minaia Gavi del Comune di Gavi Rovereto 2024

Gavi is one of the most fashionable white regions in Italy and the Cortese grape is king. Bergaglio's Gavi di Gavi La Minaia from the sub-zone of Rovereto is 100% stainless steel fermented and left to rest in the bottle before being released. White peach and acacia aromatics, with soft honeyed richness, a cool mineral streak, beautifully balanced and fresh through to the long finish. The palate is crisp and dry, with a hint of ripe pears and a complex array of red and green apples, the finish is mouth-wateringly refreshing and lengthy.

Wine Press Ratings

Awarded the highest "Tre Bicchieri" (3 Glasses) in Italy's Gambero Rosso in the 2021 edition of the book.

94 Points - Jancis Robinson (2021)

About the Producer

From less than 18 hectares of vineyards, the father & son team of Bergaglio produce just 2 wines. A bit introverted, almost taciturn, they prefer to let their two wines speak for themselves. They love spending most of their time in the vineyard, and are quite rightly proud of their efforts.

They're made from a single grape variety called Cortese. An ancient autochthonous grape, probably over 500 years old, to which not a single gene researcher elsewhere has found a relationship. There are not even 3,000 hectares of it, almost exclusively in Piedmont, most of them in the province of Alessandria in the southeast of the region, along the Lemme River, near the charming historic town of Gavi. Some of the best sites belong to the Bergaglios, who only process their own grapes. The Minaia site, on a hill directly behind the family cellar, is one of the best of the whole appellation.
