Gold Medal - Concours Mondial de Bruxelles (2020)
90 Points - Decanter (2019)
"An intensely fragrant nose of bramble fruits and fresh strawberries. Immediately alive and succulent in the mouth, giving well-defined red berry fruit flavours. Fresh and easy to drink with some chalky tannins and a refreshing finish. Needs a bit more time to soften and integrate, but an enjoyable glass. 50% Cabernet Sauvignon, 50% Merlot."
92 Points - Decanter (2018)
"Caroline Xavier Perromat are proprietors at Château Calvimont, situated in Cerons on the right bank of the Gironde, where gravel soils are layered over limestone subsoil. Attractive, intense, raspberry conserve flavours are supported by subtle oak maturation, fine tannins and fresh acidity. A great balance between the ripeness of the 2018 vintage, concentration of flavour, approachability and ageing ability, this Graves finishes with a lingering, floral/mineral flourish."
About the producer
An estate in the heart of the vineyard, with a history as colourful as the vines themselves. The château itself is an old vineyard charterhouse built at the beginning of the 18th-century on a terrace overlooking the Garonne. Cerons is one of the smallest and oldest appellations in Bordeaux. At the heart of the village of Cérons, in the Graves region, surrounded by high stone walls, the château faces a magnificent 12th-century church. Xavier and Caroline Perromat took over the family property in 2012 with the intention of raising the quality of wines produced. The estate is made up of 30 hectares of vines planted on a gravel plateau with a subsoil of marine fossils and limestone, which dominate the village. This terroir, with its unique soil and climate, allows for the production of wines of three colours: Graves red, Graves white, and Cérons, a golden wine of Bordeaux.
Château Calvimont is a husband and wife-led team operation run by Xavier Perromat and his wife Caroline Perromat. Xavier Perromat undertook the painstaking task of determining and setting boundaries of individual vine plots to showcase the finesse and quality of this terroir. Xavier, his technical assistant Audrey and his wine consultant Julien are all committed to durable wine growing that produces great wines while respecting the environment. Mr. Perromat believes that it’s their shared vision that allows them to work well as a team. Disbudding, leaf thinning
and green harvests are carried out by hand with meticulous care and attention.
Taste
The nose is strongly marked by fruit and very subtle spicy notes. On the palate, we find greedy notes of wild cherry and wild strawberry. A vintage characterised by its great finesse, aromatic intensity and precision.
Winemakers Notes:
The 2020 vintage is particularly marked by a warm climate. The winter is mild, with little rainfall, accompanied by unusually warm temperatures. The bud burst is early. The spring, warm and damp, favours an active growth. By contrast, the summer is dry and very hot, slowing down the maturation of the grapes. Fortunately, we receive a series of small stormy rains from mid-August onwards which boosts the ripening of the grapes. At harvest time, the berries are beautiful, very healthy and have a remarkable organoleptic quality. The wines are rich, aromatic and precise. The vintage is generous and intense. A tasty and voluptuous wine.
