Domaine Vincent Prunier Volnay 1er Cru 2020

Domaine Vincent Prunier Volnay 1er Cru 2020

If you have so much as a vague interest in red Burgundy, then this is a must-try wine. The 2020 vintage was as challenging as it was exceptional and Vincent’s obsessive attention to detail came into its own. He deliberately kept his hand-tended Pinot Noir vines’ yields low, boosting the concentration and structure of this classic year still further. The downside to this was he wasn’t able to produce much wine, but what he has created is of memorable quality.

Taste

Still deep red, the Vincent Prunier Volnay 1er Cru 2020 offers that classic Volnay combination of red berries and purple flowers on the nose. The palate is elegant and nuanced, but there’s a greater level of concentration and depth than you might expect. The fruit ranges from strawberries and raspberries through to blackberries and damsons via red cherries and black grapes. Smoky, and with a savoury edge, the finish is long, the tannins perfectly polished and the acidity so well judged. This calls for fine food such as truffle risotto, coq au vin, veal, or filet steak.
