90 Points - International Wine Report (2017 Vintage)
"The 2017 Dauprat Pauillac opens with pretty aromas of blackberries and red plums, which are woven together with spices, tobacco and hints of crushed stones all coming together in the glass. On the palate this is medium-bodied and well balanced with a silky texture that continues through the finish, where blackberries and spices continue to linger on. Allow this another year in bottle to flesh out a bit more."
92 Points - Wine Enthusiast (2016 Vintage)
"This wine comes from a small parcel belonging to the Meffre family that owns chateaus in Saint-Julien and Pauillac. It is packed with the sophisticated black fruits to be expected in this great appellation. Tannins are integrating into black-currant fruits and acidity."
About the Producer
This is a wonderful parcel of vines sandwiched in between plots owned by Château Latour & Château Lynch Bages. Just half a hectare here and the old vines produce a fabulous fruit. It does not have a winery so it can’t be called «Château » and the terroir here is distinct from the other property in Pauillac owned by the Meffre family: Château Bellegrave. For this reason, the wine for the 3000 bottles produced here is vinified separately. The wine here is elegant with coarse tannins which will harmonize with the fruit over the next 5‐10 years. The name comes from the parcel of vines and every connoisseur should have this in their cellar.
Gabriel Meffre at Dauprat is the master behind Dauprat. His château that stands opposite Ducru Beaucaillou is one of the rare Crus Bourgeois of the appellation. He has been purchasing properties in Saint Julien and Pauillac for the last 40 years and renovating them, improving the work in the vineyard and making the cellars into buildings that would turn his prestigious neighbours green with envy! A man who is driven by the search for perfection in the wines he makes. Mr. Meffre trusts the consulting laboratory of the late genius Denis Dubordieu – a man to whom he trusted his vinification for decades.
Taste
73% Cabernet Sauvignon, 27% Merlot with the average of vines being 40 years old. Great finesse, smoothness, and tannins. With a tight full-bodied expression. Over time the tannins can be expected to become rounder and the aromas will develop their full potential by becoming fine and delicate but conserving their potency. Can be paired with grilled entrecote, leg of lamb, rib of beef.
