Chateau Le Rey les Argileuses 2021
92 Points - James Suckling. A pure expression of Bordeaux’s Right Bank, made with a Burgundian focus on terroir. Sourced from green and blue clay soils in Sainte-Colombe, this un-oaked 2021 is bright, juicy and vibrant, with pure red and black fruit and a fresh, mineral finish.
Wine Press Ratings
92 Points - James Suckling (2021 Vintage)
"This is wonderfully fruity with mulberries, citrus fruit and some wet earth. It's medium-bodied and deliciously fruity all the way through. Yet, it’s in-check and bright. Low sulfur. No wood. Drink now."
90 Points - Jeff Leve (2021 Vintage)
"Flowers, crushed rocks, black raspberries with strawberries pop from the glass. On the palate, the wine is soft, fresh, polished, forward and easy to drink. This well-priced, early-drinking charmer is a by-the-case purchase. Drink from 202-2031."
90 Points - Falstaff (2021 Vintage)
"Deep dark garnet, opaque core with purple hues on the rim. Ripe black cherries, hints of plums and nougat; inviting. Medium complexity, redcurrant fruit, fresh acidity, mineral, lemony, delicate saltiness on the finish; an animated companion for the table."
Taste
Bright and inviting on the nose, with aromas of mulberry, red cherry, citrus peel and a hint of wet earth. The palate is medium-bodied and juicy, with pure fruit flavours, lively acidity and a subtle mineral edge. No oak, just clean, vibrant fruit, finishing fresh and precise.
About the Producer
Château Le Rey is a 12-hectare estate set on clay-limestone soils in Sainte-Colombe, east of Saint-Émilion. With roots dating back to the Louis XIII era, the property combines rich history with modern precision. Since 2016, it has been owned by Peter Kwok, Philippe Lambrecht, and Jean-Christophe Meyrou, who share a passion for terroir-focused winemaking.
The vineyard, with 30-year-old vines, is farmed sustainably to preserve its environmental balance. Château Le Rey produces two distinct cuvées: Les Argileuses from clay soils and Les Rocheuses from pure limestone — reflecting a Burgundian approach to Bordeaux, where site defines style.
