Chateau Bois de Rolland Cuvee Prestige Bordeaux Superieur 2021
Bronze Medal Winner. 2021 was a glorious year for Bordeaux and the vintage’s quality filtered down to the petit chateaux as the Bois de Rolland Cuvee Prestige 2021 shows. A year of extremes that saw everything from drought to deluges, hail to heat waves, all set against the COVID-19 pandemic, it was a vintage where winemakers needed to be on their guard. Those who were watchful saw reduced harvests of exceptionally ripe grapes that produced wines of wonderful quality.
Awards
Bronze Medal - Decanter World Wine Awards (2021 Vintage)
"Juicy ripe red fruit on the nose, layered with herbal, mint, and vanilla complexity. Intense palate, marked by oak with vanilla, cinnamon, charcoal, mocha, and dark chocolate. Smooth ripe tannins, rounded mouthfeel."
Taste
Deep cherry red, the bouquet blends red berries, cherries and violets with darker notes of prunes, bitter chocolate and cinnamon. The medium-bodied palate is packed with sweetly toned red and black cherries, plums and brambles with just a hint of vanilla and spices. Soft and plump, it’s a lovely wine that will drink well over the next 3 to 5 years.
About the Producer
The property has a wonderful history and pedigree. Situated just 17 kilometres from Saint Emilion on the Coubeyrac plateau of clay and limestone – the blend helps to express some of the finest wines in Bordeaux. The Marianist monks built some stunning buildings to use this terroir as a farm. The farmers were none other than the orphans of the region who were taken in to live, work and gain an education. The property became renowned for its vines, cereal production and cattle rearing. Now just a winery, the perfect exposure of a plateau with south facing vines upon ancient sedimentary soils allow the Geromin family to produce fabulous wines.Â
The first generation of the Geromin family to labour these soils put in back breaking hours of work to produce a fabulous expression of this wonderful terroir. They have now passed the baton to their 2 daughters. Audrey the eldest who learnt her trade at La Tour Blanche is now the winemaker, while her younger sister Marion is responsible for the distribution. Marion cut her teeth in distribution in Kuala Lumpur and worked in the Ribera del Duero region for 3 years.
