Lou Miranda Fierce III Sagrantino 2020
The Barossa’s tiny 2020 vintage – yields were 50% lower than the ten-year average – tested the winemaking mettle of all producers. The Lou Miranda team routinely take a fanatical approach to vineyard care, but in 2020 daily assessments were undertaken to ensure grapes were picked at the optimum moment. This turned out to be up to three weeks earlier than usual. The rarely seen Sagrantino grapes loved the hot, dry conditions and performed spectacularly well. The tiny harvest was sorted, pressed and fermented in stainless steel. The team watched fermentation like Goshawks to ensure these super-concentrated grapes balanced power with complexity. The finished wines were aged in American oak and have been universally acclaimed, providing a showcase for how well this Umbrian grape variety can perform in Australia.

Wine Press Ratings
94 Points - Sam Kim, Wine Orbit (2019 Vintage)
"Beautifully fruited and perfumed, the inviting bouquet shows dark plum, roasted nut, game and thyme nuances, leading to a succulent palate that’s plump and flavoursome. Generous and structured at the same time with a lengthy sturdy finish."
Taste
What a wine! Mighty and magnificent, the Lou Miranda Estate Fierce III Sagrantino is one of the most powerful and concentrated Australian wines we’ve ever tasted. Inky blue-black, the nose mixes black cherries with blackberries, vanilla, spices and earth. In the mouth there is an abundance of sweet cherry and bramble fruits set against a backdrop of savoury, earthy, pine nuts notes. The tannins are noticeable but are rounded, and polished and convey a ripe blueberry and cream tone. Decant and drink now with red meats, mushroom dishes, cheeses or game, or squirrel away and watch this develop over the next ten years.
