Chateau de Gourdon 921 Le Coq Rouge Cotes du Rhone 2022
Nicknamed by the winemaking team as their ‘Buddy’ wine, the Chateau de Gourdon 921 Le Coq Rouge Cotes du Rhone was created to be a joyous, easy-going wine. Rich dark ruby red colour with a pretty pink rim, the bouquet is a classic mix of stewed blackberries, raspberries and black pepper. Juicy and lively on the palate, there’s a lovely balance between black fruits, red berries, cherries, and spices. Perfect with hard cheeses, red meats or mushroom dishes.
Produced from a blend of Grenache with a little Syrah, Cinsault and other local varieties, it’s a pet project only made in relatively small quantities. Fermented in concrete and stainless-steel tanks, it is fruit-driven yet has admirable depth and complexity. A cold maceration and long, slow fermentation giving a well-extracted wine that’s rounded and supple.

About Château de Gourdon
Château de Gourdon lies near Bollène, in the heart of the Southern Rhône. It has over 50 hectares of vineyards in the appellations Côtes du Rhône and Côtes du Rhône Village Suze la Rousse, some of which border Châteauneuf du Pape. The vines are well-placed, enjoying a Mediterranean climate and sandy soils which imparts an intensity while the naturally low yields mean the wines have great concentration. The often-fierce intervention of the Mistral keeps pests at bay meaning they don’t use pesticides or herbicides. The result wines have a delicious purity of fruit and are an excellent expression of the varieties that made them.
