Vivino Rating: 4.2 (Jul 2025)
Taste
Deep ruby with tawny lowlights, the bouquet is refined and evolved, offering a blend of black fruits, herbs, spices, and a touch of undergrowth. The palate is harmonious and balances red and black berries, minerals and smoke, pepper and liquorice. It also balances power with delicacy, being intense but supple and charming. The finish is long, with rounded tannins and a flavour of earth and leather adding yet another layer of complexity. Enjoy this with everything from tomato-based dishes to roast beef or creamy cheeses.
About the Producer
Château de Gourdon lies near Bollène, in the heart of the Southern Rhône. It has over 50 hectares of vineyards in the appellations Côtes du Rhône and Côtes du Rhône Village Suze la Rousse, some of which border Châteauneuf du Pape. The vines are well-placed, enjoying a Mediterranean climate and sandy soils which imparts an intensity while the naturally low yields mean the wines have great concentration. The often-fierce intervention of the Mistral keeps pests at bay meaning they don’t use pesticides or herbicides. The result wines have a delicious purity of fruit and are an excellent expression of the varieties that made them.
