Chateau Calvimont Graves Blanc 2023
This classy award winning white Bordeaux showcases the unique terroir of the tiny commune of Cerons. The château itself is an old vineyard charterhouse built at the beginning of the 18th-century on a terrace overlooking the Garonne. The dominant Semillon brings richness and tropical fruit flavours along with a smooth texture. The Sauvignon Blanc and Gris bring vivacity, minerality, classic citrus and floral aromas to the blend. The wines are magnificent, colourful, fruity and concentrated. Colour, smoothness, creaminess, and freshness are the key features of this vintage. 2023 is a brilliant vintage with great ageing potential.
Blend: 80% Semillon | 15% Sauvignon Blanc | 5% Sauvignon Gris
Taste
A sparkling colour with lemony yellow reflections, a nose with notes of citrus fruits, pink grapefruit and white flowers. The palate is marked by a round, delicate, mineral, chiselled attack, with notes of yellow lemon zest and kumquat. A very fresh, textured aromatic palate with a good length.
The year 2023 was marked by a mild and dry winter leading to an early budding. The spring is mild and wet with no pest pressure. Flowering took place quickly in very favorable, dry and warm conditions. The harvest prospects are very good on our Graves soils. The vines resisted the heat and drought well and remained green and vigorous until the harvest. Two storms in August allowed the grapes to finish ripening. The first white grape harvest took place on 19 August. The wines are magnificent, colourful, fruity and concentrated. Colour, smoothness, creaminess, and freshness are the key features of this vintage. 2023 is a brilliant vintage with great ageing potential.
"A fragrant nose, really aromatic and appealing from the 40% Semillon and 10% Sauvignon Gris in the blend. The perfume continues faintly on the palate, gently surrounding the peach, green apple, lemon and honeyed mango flavours. Great texture and drive from start to finish. Energy and vibrancy. Not overly complex but delivers an enjoyable glass of wine."
About the producer
An estate in the heart of the vineyard, with a history as colourful as the vines themselves. The château itself is an old vineyard charterhouse built at the beginning of the 18th-century on a terrace overlooking the Garonne. Cerons is one of the smallest and oldest appellations in Bordeaux. At the heart of the village of Cérons, in the Graves region, surrounded by high stone walls, the château faces a magnificent 12th-century church. Xavier and Caroline Perromat took over the family property in 2012 with the intention of raising the quality of wines produced. The estate is made up of 30 hectares of vines planted on a gravel plateau with a subsoil of marine fossils and limestone, which dominate the village. This terroir, with its unique soil and climate, allows for the production of wines of three colours: Graves red, Graves white, and Cérons, a golden wine of Bordeaux.
Château Calvimont is a husband and wife-led team operation run by Xavier Perromat and his wife Caroline Perromat. Xavier Perromat undertook the painstaking task of determining and setting boundaries of individual vine plots to showcase the finesse and quality of this terroir. Xavier, his technical assistant Audrey and his wine consultant Julien are all committed to durable wine growing that produces great wines while respecting the environment. Mr. Perromat believes that it’s their shared vision that allows them to work well as a team. Disbudding, leaf thinning and green harvests are carried out by hand with meticulous care and attention.
