Strandveld Vineyards 'Adamastor' Sauvignon-Semillon 2022

92 Points - Gilbert et Gaillard. Crafted in the mould of a fine Bordeaux blanc, the blend pairs Sauvignon’s precision with the breadth and quiet structure of Sémillon, delivering a style that feels polished, layered and unmistakably maritime in character.

Taste

Lemon zest, grapefruit and white peach sit alongside subtle notes of fresh herbs and a light almond nuance. The palate shows gentle texture and restraint, with a fine saline thread and a long, composed finish that speaks to its classic, premium Bordeaux-inspired style.

About the Producer

Strandveld Vineyards stands as the southernmost winery in Africa, nestled just 7km from the tempestuous Cape Agulhas coastline. The producer is celebrated for harnessing the wild maritime climate, with cooling Atlantic breezes and mineral-rich soils lending distinctive character to their wines. Led by winemaker Conrad Vlok since 2004, the estate works with small, low-yielding vines that offer intensely flavoured grapes. Strandveld is known both for its pioneering spirit - establishing a new vineyard in challenging coastal conditions - and for allowing the raw energy of the landscape to shine through in each bottle, producing wines brimming with personality and finesse.

What is Adamastor?
Adamastor, created by Luís de Camões in Os Lusíadas (1572), is a mythological Titan symbolising the wild, untameable forces faced by sailors at the Cape of Good Hope. Just as Adamastor embodied the peril and resilience of explorers confronting nature’s challenges, Strandveld Vineyards Adamastor reflects this legendary spirit - its character shaped by relentless Atlantic winds, mineral-rich soils, and the untamed southern Cape, producing a wine with remarkable depth and a true sense of place.
