Peter Mertes Gold Edition Riesling Kabinett Feinherb 2023
The Peter Mertes Gold Edition Riesling Kabinett Feinherb 2023 is another outstanding wine from this award-winning producer. White gold with amber highlights, the bouquet offers lovely fragrant notes of white blossom, green apple, pears and grapefruit. The quality of the excellent (if capricious!) 2023 vintage shines through, with mouth-watering flavours of honeydew melon, dried apple and citrus, all of which are set off by minerals and a touch of lemon zest. Off-dry, with fragrant notes of white blossom, green apple, pears and grapefruit, enjoy this with everything from roast pork to Thai noodles.
Vivino Rating: 4.2 (Oct 2024)
About the Producer
Founded in 1924 to make great wine available to all, not just the privileged few. Since then, Peter Mertes has established a reputation for producing a range of fine wines that celebrate the grape’s characteristics. They now own substantial holdings in the Mosel and Saar, on which they produce wonderfully pure, vibrant Riesling alongside Pinot Noir, Pinot Grigio, and Chardonnay.
Peter Mertes take meticulous care in making their wines. Only the finest, fully ripe grapes were selected – essential in 2023 – where they are sorted and carefully broken up. Fermentation is carried out in temperature-controlled stainless-steel tanks to ensure the delicate aromas and balance are preserved. Once completed, the wine spends time on its lees to extract further character.Â
