Chateau de Gourdon Terrasse a l'Ombre Cotes du Rhone 2023

The Chateau de Gourdon Terrasse a l'Ombre is made under the relatively rarely seen Côtes du Rhône Village "Suze-la-Rousse”. A blend of old vine Grenache and Syrah, each plot is harvested individually and several ‘tries’ may be attempted to ensure only perfectly ripe grapes are picked. To ensure the wines reflect the character of the vine and vineyard, they are fermented in stainless steel using natural yeasts.

Taste

With its wonderfully deep, saturated colour and bold bouquet of crushed plums, blackberries, cherries and herbs, it’s clear this isn’t your run-of-the-mill Côtes du Rhône Village. The palate is just as impressive, with masses of sweetly toned black fruits supported by wild herbs, minerals, spices, and a touch of plum conserve to the finish. Give this an hour to breathe and serve with roasted red meats, full-flavoured cheeses, or game.

About the Producer

Château de Gourdon lies near Bollène, in the heart of the Southern Rhône. It has over 50 hectares of vineyards in the appellations Côtes du Rhône and Côtes du Rhône Village Suze la Rousse, some of which border Châteauneuf du Pape. The vines are well-placed, enjoying a Mediterranean climate and sandy soils which imparts an intensity while the naturally low yields mean the wines have great concentration. The often-fierce intervention of the Mistral keeps pests at bay meaning they don’t use pesticides or herbicides. The result wines have a delicious purity of fruit and are an excellent expression of the varieties that made them.
