90 Points - Wine Enthusiast (2022 Vintage)
"Tangy with a fresh citrus character, this wine has an herbal edge. With its citrus and orange peel character, the wine is rich while also crisp."
Taste
The A de Château dâArche 2021 has a lovely green-gold hue. The bouquet is an alluring mix of zesty grapefruit, peaches, pears, and honey. The palate is just as complex, offering fresh tones of pears, peaches, lemons, grapefruit and just-ripe passion fruit, with vanilla, honey, apricots, and dry, savoury minerals. Medium-bodied, thereâs a Sauternes-like richness to it that will build over time. Bone dry, it still offers a vivid taste of place, with peripheral, almost ghostly, notes of Sauternes to it that just add to the interest of this fascinating wine.
About the Producer
Château dâArche is a Sauternes Grand Cu Classe. It was one of only 58 Bordeaux châteaux to be included in the famous 1855 Classification where it was awarded Deuxieme Cru Classe or second growth status. This ancient property lies in the Sauternes commune within the region of Graves, itself home to many of Bordeauxâs greatest dry white wines. Château dâArche owes much of its acclaim to its position on a gravel ridge that not only gives exceptional drainage but leaves vines exposed to botrytis cinerea, the noble rot that is essential to the areaâs exquisite, sweet wines. The A de Château dâArche Bordeaux Blanc is a dry white wine produced from grapes that havenât been affected by botrytis. Following a poor period in the 1960s and 1970s, in 1981 it came under the control of the leading Bordeaux figure Pierre Perromat who returned it to its former glory. Since 1994 itâs been managed by Chateau Palmerâs owners Malher-Besse and the quality has continued to soar.
