Tapanappa Piccadilly Valley Chardonnay 2020
92 points - Falstaff. The Tapanappa Piccadilly Valley 2020 Chardonnay is a wonderful example of the new wave of cool-climate Australian wines. Produced in the Piccadilly Valley, a sub-region of Adelaide Hills, it’s made from thirty-year-old vines that enjoy a long, slow ripening period on poor, rain-leached sandy loam soils. Once ripe the grapes were harvested by hand and chilled to 2oC before pressing to preserve the aromas and freshness. Using innovative air-bag presses, the juice was fermented in small French oak casks, a third of which were new. Fermentation took place in the cool autumn conditions, taking a full two months to complete. It was then barrel-aged on its lees (dead yeast and other natural by-products) before bottling. The resulting wine perfectly reflects its cool-climate vineyard being a sublimely elegant, yet full-flavoured Australian Chardonnay.

92 points - Falstaff (2020)Â
"A most tender nose unites an overtone of jasmine with gentle notes of hazelnut and a citric note of creaminess. The palate shows concentration immediately and quite some punch – that is accompanied by equally pronounced freshness. The mid-palate has a creamy texture, full of citrus pith. This is fresh but also quite potent."
Taste
With its beautifully vivid golden colour, it’s clear that the Tapanappa Piccadilly Valley 2020 Chardonnay is a class act. The bouquet cleverly balances freshness and depth. Crisp green apples, pears, citrus and dusty minerals are paired with honey, blossoms, and tropical fruits. The palate is equally captivating. Fresh green and yellow fruits flood forth only for a wave of peaches, kiwi, baked apples and smoky vanilla to give it depth and weight. Toward the finish minerals and a tight, grapey acidity come in to give it grip and intensity. This wonderful wine is the perfect foil for white fish, seafood, roasted poultry or vegetable stir-fries and Oriental cuisine.
